                CAUSATIVE

Dalam kenyataan sehari-hari sering kita menyuruh atau meminta orang lain melakukan sesuatu pekerjaan untuk kepentingan kita, misalnya kita pergi ke barber shop untuk mencukur rambut, pergi ke bengkel untuk mereparasi kendaraan, dan lain-lain. Struktur kalimat seperti itu dikatakan sebagai Causative Active, dengan pola sebagai berikut :

S + have/make/let + Someone +  V1                       atau

S + get + Someone + to V1

Apabila kita ingin menyatakan bahwa sesuatu dilakukan oleh orang lain atas keinginan kita, tanpa memperhatikan siapa yang melakukannya, maka struktur seperti itu disebut sebagai Causative Pasive, dengan pola :

S + have/make/let/get + Noun + V3/Past Participle

                Kalimat Causative dapat dibuat dalam berbagai bentuk Tenses, namun yang perlu diperhatikan adalah bahwa “Causative” berbeda dengan bentuk Present Perfect Tense, yang sama-sama menggunakan Past Participle. Perbedaan yang sangat prinsip adalah, ‘Causative’ berarti menyuruh orang lain melakukan sesuatu untuk kita, sedangkan, bentuk ‘Present Perfect Tense’ berarti kita melakukan sesuatu tindakan oleh kita sendiri. Contoh :

• I have hairdresser cut my hair (Causative Active)

Berarti : saya menyuruh pemotong rambut memotong rambut saya

• I have my hair cut (Causative Passive)

Berarti : saya menyuruh orang lain untuk memotong rambut saya

• I have cut my hair

Berarti : saya telah memotong sendiri rambut saya

• He asks some one repair his car (Simple Present Tense)
• He has repairman repair his car (C-Active)
• He has his car repaired (C-Passive)
• He gets repairman to repair his car (C-Active)
• He gets his car repaired (C-Passive)

• I asked some one cleaned my house (Simple Past Tense)
• I had my maid clean my house (C-Active)
• I had my house cleaned (C-Passive)
• I got my maid to clean my house (C-Active)
• I got my house cleaned (C-Passive)

• Some body will paint their room (Future Tense)
• They will have some body clean their room (C-Active)
• They will have their room painted (C-Passive)
• They will get some body to clean their room (C-Active)
• They will get their room cleaned (C-Passive)
